2015’s Journey

Page

This page will be a long one, as I want to pour out some of my story behind all of these fictions—the one that I wrote in 2015. Yes, 2015 was probably a year when I was be able to write a total of 153 fictions, and 2015 was a year when I started to learn a lot—be about writing, characters, how to put my feel into the story, and others.

If you accidentally stumble into this page, thank you. If you decide to read these post ’till the end, thank you very much. I always want to say thank you to all of my readers, but probably, there are times—many times—when I forgot and couldn’t do that.

Okay, let’s start the journey, shall we?

.

.

drabble.

I wrote a bunch of drabbles at 2015, either simply a 100 words fiction for fun, a-drabbles (the one based on pictures), and playlist-fic (the one based on lyrics)

.

Still a lot of romance, fluff, or crack fics on the list. Oh well, not only drabble, but also in ficlet and vignette. After all, cheesy and romance fictions are still a mainstream—and probably—the easiest topic to write. So no, I won’t talk about all of the drabbles on the list. I’ll talk about the most memorable one.

First, the A-Drabble. From Asleep until Sign, all of them were a-drabble, the one that I made based on the picture. Looking for picture, and then the idea itself, was a fun process. During that, I even found myself to remember a lot about my childhood—about times when I watched a lot of anime, then imagining my own story.

The other type of drabble that give me a lot of thoughts was playlist-fic. Yes, the one from SEVENTEEN’s Boys Be album and VIXX’s Chained Up album was memorable. I had a lot of fun during the writing process, made a little twist here and there, and even debuting my new characters. They were fun to write, but they weren’t the most memorable one. Because the one who I held dearly was BTS’ HYYH pt.2 playlistfic. The last eight fictions in the list above, the eight tracks that hold so much meaning for me.

It’s not simple, not easy to write, and maybe not fun to read—for some of you. The theme was dark, contained so much trigger-warning, but I felt an urge to write it. Why? Maybe, because they were like a summary of my thoughts. Of my life experience, of everything that I learned in 2015. Of course, I didn’t feel that kind of hardship—thankfully. But still, I had a message to convey. I want to tell people that “every person has their own story”. A simple one, but I learned that those phrase really contain a lot of meanings.

.

.

.

ficlet.

A total of 33 ficlets. 100 until 1000 words of fiction, and some of them were in english.

.

.

The ficlet, probably my favorite length to write.

Like what I’ve mentioned in the beginning of this section, some of them were in english. So, naturally, they become something memorable for me. My grammar wasn’t perfect, and I do admit that I lack a lot. But still, I want to try to write something in English, even though it’s just a simple-pointless-kind of fic.

Now, moving on to some ficlets that I secretly put on my favorite list.

First, Her Secret Keeper and Jinxed. Two of them might be simple and not-so-special at the first glance, but I favor them since I was be able to introduce my new characters. Choi Lula and Choi Han. They look similar, with those blunt and straight-to-the-point kind of attitude. Maybe, I still couldn’t be able to develop them as much as Re or Minha. But still, I’m happy for their debut, and I really want to write a lot of story for them.

Second, O-Week. To be really honest, I didn’t expect a lot from this fic. I wrote it for fun, after all the random talk in twitter and line. But surprisingly, I got a “Movie of The Week” from IFK for this piece of absurd story. It’s a nice surprise, and I’m still feel thankful until now (and also sorry, if I accidentally haven’t reply your comment there).

Third, for my my favorite trio’s story. The dark-and-life-theme one, those that I wrote impulsively during one of my hardest time. To Fix A Broken One, To Let Your Worries Out, and To Make His Pain Gone. I wrote those pieces with a lot of thoughts going on in my mind, trying to put all of them in order and consoled myself. I also contemplated a lot, whether to publish it or not. But at the end, I still posted it in my personal blog, hoped that one day, I could read it again with much relief.

Last but not least, Happened During Rainfall, Muffin for Us, and Sorrowful Memento.

Happened During Rainfall was a simple, day to day story, that I experienced myself. Talking about behind the scene won’t be fun, since you can read it by yourself from the fic itself. But this fic was simply memorable since it made me thinking about a lot of thing, about human to human relationship, about how some little things could be so precious and memorable.

Muffin for Us was written for an event in Fanfictions’ Cafe (my new family in this fiction-world). It wasn’t my first orific, and the characters itself (Alven and Aleta) was derived from Jimin and Minha’s characters. Still, I want to be proud. I want to develop Al Siblings, then put them in my novel one day.

And Sorrowful Memento was supposed to be a collaboration project. Based on Lost Stars by Adam Levine, I put this ficlet into my favorite list because of the emotion that I felt during the writing process. I cried a lot at that time, I felt the pain that Yoongi felt in those piece of fic, and I felt the loss that Jihoon faced. It was a reminder for all of us, a simple reminder about simple thing that can happen between a family.

.

vignette.

Not as much as ficlet, but I wrote quite a lot vignette. 1000 up ’till 3000 words of fiction, and most of them are in my favorite list.

.

.

Let’s start from my favorite vignette for every characters.

Re x Taekwoon: 10th of November and Of Audition, Romeo, and That Pianist. Two of them were actually very different, one with hurt/comfort and romance things inside; one with school-life and theater activities. 10th of November was special because it was written for Taekwoon’s birthday, and I put a story of Re’s family inside. It was something that I want to write since long time ago, so I’m glad that I could do it. Meanwhile, Of Audition, Romeo, and That Pianist was simply memorable because of the theater activities. One of the reason why Re played in theater and also worked in theater after graduate, because I still love theater so much. It was something that I write based on my personal experience, and honestly, joining a theater was one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

Joshua x Mia: Of Prom Night, Best Friend, and Moving On. Not their debut fic, actually, but I still love this piece a lot. It was a simple, high-school romance and friendship kind of story. I always love writing fluff, and for being able to make a story this light—between all of those dark-themed fics that I wrote—felt really good. It felt like being normal and happy during your hardship, and maybe that’s one of the reason why I want to keep Joshua x Mia story as simple as possible.

Seungyoon x Lula: Void and Boy’s Perspective. These two are the exact opposite of Joshua x Mia story. Rather than a fluff one, I decided to break them up for a moment. No sweet words or scenes, only heart-break and cold words towards each other. Some of the reader might thought that Lula was being too much, that she was annoying and didn’t deserve Seungyoon’s feeling. But one thing that I want to tell you: she has her own reason. She didn’t have happiest family in the world, she suffered a lot during her childhood, and she trusted Seungyoon with her life-story. That’s why, I wrote Boy’s Perspective right after I wrote Void. It’s about understanding, about why sometimes love itself wasn’t sufficient enough in a relationship.

Yoongi x Minha: Unexpected and Unusual. Or to put it simply, the story of how Yoongi and Minha become a lover. Aside from the fact that they are my favorite couple, I enjoy writing this because of a reason. Yoongi and Minha was kinda different with Joshua x Mia, Taekwoon x Re, or Seungyoon x Lula. Both of them knew each other since their childhood days, growing up together, and experiencing many difficult times together. They already love and care for each other since the beginning, and that’s why for some reason, having a love-relationship or not wasn’t a matter. Yet, I do end up making them as a couple, even though their other stories—mainly—isn’t about love and rainbow and unicorn.

And then, other story that I need to put in this list are Tale of Starlight and The Secrets of Cloudy Sky. Both of them contained random thoughts that cross my mind one night, during the time when I glanced up towards the sky and searched for the stars. Yes, me and my obsession towards space. I always love moon, stars, the planets, and everything else. The universe itself has a lot of untold stories and secrets. They were mysterious, just like our life. Well, maybe that’s the reason though—about why I incorporate a lot of things about sky into my pieces of fiction.

.

.

oneshot.

3000+ words of fiction, much of work but not as much as chaptered or series.

.

20A Little Spark Won’t HurtFraterHalloween EncounterLet Me Hold You Tight These NightsLetting GoRetinentiaShades of Past MemoriesThe Lone Wolf and The White Fox

.

To be honest, I can’t choose.

I just can’t, since every oneshot was special on their own, was different and need an equal amount of effort. So, here they are, the story behind every piece of oneshot:

20 and Frater. Both are family-themed fics, with a big contrast in the mood. 20 was written based on my own anxiety; about growing up, about having responsibilities, about things that started to change, about our dream, our worries, our youth. I wrote this on my way to adulthood—since they say that being 20 means you are officially an adult—and maybe, I can proudly say that I also growing up during the writing process. Meanwhile, Frater was about finding a family. It’s about happiness, about imperfection, about having a family even though you were not blood-related, about all those happy things that popped-out like a miracle.

A Little Spark Won’t Hurt and Letting Go. A Little Spark Won’t Hurt was meant to be a birthday fic, but somehow, it turned out to be another lesson between a relationship. Just like the title said, having a flat and too stable relationship won’t fun, right? While on the other side, Letting Go was about letting someone who you loved go. Not because a break-up, but simply because of fate. It was another failed attempt of mine to write a marriage-life story, yet I must say that I love the interactions between all of the characters.

Retinentia and The Lone Wolf and The White Fox. Two of them are fantasy-fictions; one about a secret and a farewell, the other about finding a soulmate. While Retinentia was an angsty-type-of-fic that written based on Breath by Shannon, Vasco, and Giriboy; The Lone Wolf and The White Fox was a birthday fic for Kak Yeni. It was a fun process, learning about werewolf, hybrid, and all those mysterious creatures, as well as making our own set and alternate universe for the story.

Then, we have Let Me Hold You Tight These Nights. A historical fic, based on Titanic tragedy. I made it a little bit different though, putting Carpathia (the ship that rescued Titanic’s passengers from the lifeboat) as the background. Yes, writing a historical fic means a lot of research, but still it is one of my favorite genre to write.

Halloween Encounter were halloween-related fic—as you can see from the title. But this one was especially my favorite for two reason. One, it was a childhood-themed fic; and second, it was written with a lot of tears. Rather than making a happy childhood fic, I want to make something different. Something that can made us think after reading (and writing—in my case); something to remind us that not every children in this world had a happy childhood.

Last but not least from the oneshot section, Shades of Past Memories. Written for IFK’s birthday, probably it was the first time I wrote a Dystopian-themed fiction. I do admit that it was hard, and I also lack a lot in the description and action part. But I want to think of it as a beginning, as a new experience. Writing a future-related story is fun, so I’m pretty sure that I’ll try to do it again.

Seeing how many chaptered and series work that I have done, I won’t talk about every single pieces. Rather, I’ll pick my favorite and most memorable one, especially the collaboration one.

Zodiac-Series and Blood-Type-Series are on the top of the list. Why? Because the amount of hardwork for these two projects were just crazy. Me and Kak Yeni wrote it together, talked about the idea every single day, put a deadline that nearly made us couldn’t sleep. For the Zodiac-Series, it was made based on the quote from Lock and Lock advertisement. Each of us wrote six stories, and it was published for twelve days straight—without rest. Meanwhile, the Blood-Type-Series were less crazy. It was published once a week, but since every story was wrote by both of us, we need much more time to talk about the idea. To mix a cup of childhood story with well-known blood-type traits; and we were proud with the outcome. Our last part, Type A: Responsible, was put as “Movie of The Week” at IFK. Again, much thanks for our beloved reader who support us in these two series.

Other than the collaboration work, Things Between Us series were also quite memorable. It’s a series about Joshua x Mia, and I was simply happy and grateful for the responses. Same with Hip Hop Monster Series, which I made based on Hip Hop Monster webtoon. I was thankful for your appreciation, and I’m terribly sorry for not writing the next part of the series. Hopefully, I can do it this year though.

And, of course, the most memorable one is Messy Thoughts.

Written based on BTS’ I Need U MV, it was my first attempt at writing something so dark, twisted, and beautiful at the same time. I do a lot of research for this fic only; I studied about depression, anxiety, narcolepsy, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, friendship, and human emotion itself. I put a bit of myself here and there—be that in the characters or the plot of the story. It was really difficult, but it was also satisfying for me. To think about it highly, I’m proud of myself. Finishing this story felt like overcoming a hurdle, like I was the one who be able to resolve my own problem. And of course, I want to thank my readers a lot. Really a lot, since all of their reviews, their advices, and their supports meant a lot for me. It is a kind of experience that I certainly want to feel again, since writing a life-themed fiction is pretty much a part of myself right now.

Prompt-Mix: Whatever!

Mixtape-Fic: Longing For Your Warmth | She Doesn’t Come From Mars

 .

Prompt-Mix: Whatever! was just another collaboration. The only things that made it different is the fact that there were five of us who wrote the story. Five different story, from one prompt. Quite challenging, and the process itself was quite fun.

And Mixtape-Fic was a kind of fiction that written based on a bunch of songs. While Playlistfic was a song for a story concept, Mixtape-Fic put together 4 – 5 songs into one story. It was hard, since I must looked up for songs with similar theme, read the lyrics, and then put the lyrics together into one new song. Then, from the mix-of-the-lyrics, I wrote a story. Sadly, I only wrote two Mixtape-Fic in 2015. While actually I already prepared some mix of the songs, I barely had any time to incorporate them into one new song. Well, maybe I could try it again this year, though.

Okay, end of the 2015’s Kaleidoscope!

For all of you who successfully reach this point; or for any of you who just scroll this pointless page to see what’s on the end, thank you.

For all of my beloved readers, my partners and friends in this writing world, all of you who left a reviews or press the like button or mention me at twitter or simply just read my pieces of fiction, thank you.

Thank you, and also sorry if I made a mistake during 2015. If maybe, I wasn’t be able to reply your comments, I’m sorry. If my story wasn’t good enough or didn’t fulfill your expectations or didn’t suit your taste, I’m sorry. I do lack a lot in my writing, but at least, I still want to share a piece of my mind with all of you. This blog, as well my fictions, maybe didn’t mean that much. But I’m not writing things for praise and being famous. After all this time, I just want to write because I love it.

And also, I want to write because with writing, we are able to do many things.

To be able to imagine, to dream, to learn new things, to pour out the worries, or just to run from the reality.

Once again, thank you.

I love you, guys.
